The League of Women Voters of Leelanau County in collaboration with Travere Area Community Media hosts a virtual Town Hall on the Michigan Idependent Citizens Redistricting Commission and Communities of Interest with Special Guest, Steve Lett, Commissioner with the Michigan Independent Citizens Redistricting Commission. Learn more about the reasons for and process being used to redraw the Michigan legislative and congressional maps for federal and state house representatives and the state senate. The new process of redistricting in Michigan, the criteria for Communities of Interest and opportunities for the public to provide input to the Commission before it draws the maps are discussed. "Redistricting in Michigan has been a very political process that has historically taken place behind closed doors and out of the public eye, This new independent process gives regular, everyday Michigan residents the ability to draw the State's legislative districts. We want the public to be empowered with information so they can participate in this important and historic democratic process."
