Leelanau inland lakes are an environmental treasure, a vital part of our cultural identity and an economic driver for our region. Eurasian watermilfoil is just the latest threat to our inland lakes. The League of Women Voters Leelanau County hosts a discussion about collaborative efforts between the Grand Traverse Band of Ottawa and Chippewa Indians, the Lake Leelanau Association and other community partners and private citizens to combat the infestation and stop the spread. Prevention efforts taking place on other area lakes such as those sponsored by the Glen Lake Association, home to the States first staffed Hot Water Boat Wash Station for more than 26 years are also covered.
