David Taylor, Vice President of the Old Mission Peninsula Historical Society, relates the experience of Northern Michigan people serving in the Union Army during the war. There is particular emphasis on Company K, which except for its officers, was composed entirely of Native Americans, Anishnaebek, from several communities in Northern Michigan. They were an elite special unit of sharpshooters, and brought their traditional skills to the battlefield. This is Part II of a presentation by Taylor, in which Part I focused on the home front during the Civil War. Part I was aired on TACM some months ago.
